Recommendations From the Staff at MKG Martial Arts International

Have you seen the class schedule? Feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to decide which classes to attend? Below we've come up with some basic recommendations based on 4 key areas of interest. Keep in mind that the Mixed Arts class should be the backbone of your training regardless of your specific interest. That is what we are good at and your overall progress is predicated on training in that class consistently.

All recommendations are based on attending classes 2-3 times a week for 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Look at the schedule and see how you can stack up the classes to complete the recommendations.

Good luck and train hard!

10 Suggestions to Help You Succeed at MKG
  1. Don't Skip A Workout During Your First 6 Weeks! Make It A Habit!
  2. Train 2 Times A Week Minimum. Any Less and the Momentum of Not Training is Overwhelming.
  3. Take Your Level Test Within 4 Months. Sign Up! Putting it in Writing is a Commitment. Goals are Essential For Most Students.
  4. Take a 20 Minute Private Lesson ASAP.
  5. Never Go Home After Work. Pack Your Bag and Go Straight to the School.
  6. Make a Friend. Ask if They Are Coming to the Next Class You Plan to Attend. See if They Want to Train With You? It's an Appointment. Don't Cancel or You Have Broken Your Word.
  7. Don't Be Afraid to Ask Instructors For Help With Anything!
  8. Don't Compare Yourself To Others. There are ALWAYS Going to Be People Better and Worse Than You.
  9. Come to the Intro Class Frequently and Ask Your Questions.
  10. Have Fun! Don't Take it or Yourself Too Seriously.
General Interest in Martial Arts

Mixed Arts/Phase One - 2x a Week
Martial Fit Training - 1x a Week
Kali Panantukan - 1x a Week
Kali Ranges 1/2 Hour - 1x a Week
Kali Hubud 1/2 Hour - 1x a Week

General Recommendations

Our Specialty. If you are a budding or experienced martial artist realize this is meant to be a lifelong learning experience. Take the pressure off of yourself. It is not a race. Follow the general recommendations above but add whatever classes interest you.

Also consider attending most of the seminars hosted by MKG.

Self Defense

Mixed Arts/Phase One - 1x a Week
Combat Submission Wrestling - 1x a Week
Martial Fit Training - 1x a Week
Kali Weaponry - 1x a Week
Kali Panantukan - 1x a Week

General Recommendations

If you have immediate concerns due to lifestyle or occupation see your instructor immediately. You need to modify your training at MKG slightly.

If you want to be able to defend yourself you need to give it time. All the arts we teach are extremely effective and without fluff, but our approach is generally more recreational.

Fitness Emphasis

Mixed Arts/Phase One - 2x a Week
Kickboxing - 1x a Week
Martial Fit Training - 1x a Week
Treadmill or Cardio - 2x a Week

General Recommendations

This is the hardest one to help you with because success rests on proper diet as well as the exercise we can provide. If this is your only physical activity it will be hard to get fit coming only 2x a week. 3-4x is more likely to be helpful.

Consistency is the key to making physical changes. Burn fat by doing cardio 2-3 days a week, build muscle to boost your metabolism by doing classes, stretch, watch your diet and you will definitely see results.

Pre-Competition

Mixed Arts/Phase One - 2x a Week
Combat Submission Wrestling - 1x a Week
Muay Thai or Rounds - 1x a Week
Boxing Class - 1x a Week
Sparring Class - When Applicable

General Recommendations

We do not operate a competition oriented school. We WILL however help and coach students once they truly become students of MKG and wish to represent MKG.

We can definitely get you ready.

For those whose only interest is competition we are happy to recommend local schools better at training sport fighters.

Please inquire.
